About Me

My name is Gabriel—named after my patron saint, St. Gabriel of Georgia—and Hope, because my last name directly translates to "hope" in my native language. I am currently studying at a university and was born and raised in Dumaguete City, Philippines.

I went to a rather unusual school growing up: a Catholic school that also had a strong Chinese influence. Aside from that, my early life was fairly ordinary, and I grew up much like any middle-class Filipino family would.

Things began to change during the COVID-19 pandemic. I won't go into too much detail, but it was a period where my worldview started to shift. By the end of the pandemic, I discovered Orthodoxy and gradually became convinced of it.

Over time, my interests have turned toward theology, bioenergetics, and homestead living. Most of my writing and projects will likely revolve around these themes.

About the Website

At first, I was just bored over Christmas break and decided to learn how to make a website. I never really thought about actually putting it online. Over time, the website started coming together, and I realized that it could be useful as a way to funnel all of my online presence into one place. My plan for the future is to gradually get rid of all my social media accounts.

Mainly because I find it a chore to keep up with so many platforms, and maintaining an online presence has started to feel exhausting rather than meaningful. This website is a place where I can write, post occasional updates about life, and keep an archive of my thoughts. Over time, it will serve as a single place to return to, rather than many places to keep up with.

Things I Shill

Note: I do not know all things, take everything lightly and question all. These are also subject to change at any point.

Health and Fitness

I am no expert by any means but after trying different kinds of diet I found that what I feel best with and what made most sense is following the principles of Ray Peat. The bioenergetic view of health sees the body as an energy system where strong cellular metabolism is the foundation of healing, hormone balance, and resilience. The Ray Peat diet supports this by prioritizing easily usable nutrients that fuel energy production while avoiding foods that suppress metabolism and increase stress.

Holy Orthodoxy

Back when I was still newly introduced to Orthodox Christianity these were what I found useful, and some resources I wish I knew before my baptism. Of course these should only be supplementary to your actual catechism class.

My top three favorite spiritual books in no particular order:

  • The Gurus, the Young Man and Elder Paisios — Dionysios Farasiotis
  • Wounded by Love — St. Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia
  • Everyday Saints and Other Stories — Tikhon Shevkunov

Tech

Homestead Living

  • The Fat of the Land (1961) — John Seymour
  • The Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency (1976) — John Seymour
